"How Should You Handle a Good Run of Winners?"
A big winning day needs the same review and discipline as a losing one, and almost nobody talks about how to manage a good run.
Recorded August 2025 for How to Survive a Brutal Punting Weekend. Any figures mentioned are from that time.
Most punters only start thinking about process when things go wrong. A bad run forces them to look at their results, their staking and their selections. But a good run needs exactly the same treatment. When you have a big fill up and you feel like you have the game worked out, that is the moment to do what you would have done if you had lost. Go back over the results. Keep the staking the same. Look hard at the bet selection process and ask where the mistakes were. Managing good runs is just as important as managing bad ones.
Do the same thing you would do after a loss
After a losing day, you review. You check your selections. You look at whether your staking is still right for your bank. None of that changes because the day went your way. Go back over your results the same way. Have a look at the bets and ask if there were mistakes you could have improved on, because winning bets can still come from poor decisions. The result tells you very little about the quality of the process behind it.
Staking stays where it is. The one exception is if your bank has genuinely increased by a lot and you were working off a smaller bank to begin with. In that case you can lift it slightly. That is a considered adjustment based on the size of the bank, not a reaction to feeling good about yourself.
Why nobody talks about this
Hardly anyone talks about bad runs. I talk about them a lot, because that is the reality of what I do and people get to see it firsthand. Good runs get even less attention, because when you are winning there seems to be nothing to fix. That is the trap. The work that gets skipped during a good run is the work you end up needing when the run turns.
I have been doing this for twenty five years. I have just been through a bad run, and I know a good run is around the corner, because that is what happens. I have seen it too many times to think otherwise. Whether it arrives one week or the next, I could not tell you. But it comes. And when it does, the analysis continues. I keep looking at the bet selection. I keep looking at my limits in the market and how the market is behaving. Nothing about that changes because the results improved.
Do not relax because you are in front
The danger in a good run is not the run itself. It is the relaxing. You stop reviewing. You start staking on feel. You skip the bits of the process that felt like a chore when you were losing. Then the results come back to earth and you are doing the work under pressure instead of doing it calmly while you were in front.
So keep working at the process. Keep doing the exact same thing. Do not wait for a bad run before you start improving yourself and improving your betting.
Next time you have a big day, set aside the same amount of time for review that you would have after a bad one. Same review, same staking, same questions about your selections. If you can do that when you are winning, the bad runs get a lot easier to handle.
