Max Bet Ep 6: The Moir Stakes Speed Map That Could Bust the Race Wide Open
The Moir Stakes Speed Map That Could Bust the Race Wide Open

In this week’s episode of Max Bet, we’re getting stuck into one of the juiciest setups we’ve seen in a while — a 1,000m high-pressure Moir Stakes at The Valley, and a wide-open Tramway Stakes at Randwick.

We’re not here to tip and hope. We’re here to dissect the speed, pressure, prices, and patterns — and there’s edge to be found if you know what to look for.

Whether you're a full-time punter or building your edge race by race, this one’s worth a proper look.

⚡ Moir Stakes: So Much Speed It’s Ridiculous

I've seen plenty of 1,000m races at The Valley, but I can’t remember the last time I saw this much pace on paper.

You’ve got Golden Boom (108 CAM), Barracheel (104 CAM), and a handful of others all pushing early. That means only one thing: early tempo is going to be brutal.

When that happens, we look for horses that can sit off and accelerate — not get caught in the drag race up front.

❌ Why I’m Laying Barracheel

Everyone’s got Barracheel as some sort of lock after winning at The Valley last start, but the data tells a different story.

📉 Barracheel’s acceleration rating? Just 86.
📈 Compare that to Alabama Lass (103) or Oak Hill (107) and the gap is glaring.

It’s the same story in the CAM (Cruising Acceleration Metric). Barracheel’s high cruising speed is great when things are slow — but this race is going to be hot from the jump. The data shows Barracheel has never won off a fast early tempo, and the replays back that up.

If I was bookmaking, I’d be happy to lay Barracheel all day.

💡 So Who Do I Like?

I’m backing Niance. Solid group-level horse who’s done it in this grade before. Barrier suits, gets to the right part of the track late, and has the right mix of cruising speed and finish.

Skybird is interesting too — massive turn of foot and might just get the right race shape to swoop.

📊 What CAM Is Telling Us This Week

The CAM metric has been a game-changer inside The King Zone.

It splits horses based on early pace (cruising) and final 600m acceleration. When you line it up with race pressure and track pattern, you get a very clear view of who can handle the heat — and who’ll fold under it.

For example:

  • 🟥 Escher: Can’t handle fast pace — predicted to do 98 early and only 80 late
  • 🟩 Alabama Lass: Can settle 3rd or 4th and still run a 103 last 600m
  • ⚠️ Golden Boom: High cruising, but vulnerable late under pressure

🧠 Tramway Stakes: Private Eye, Pericles & A Map You Can Bet Into

Over at Randwick, we’re working with an average race pressure and a predictable map.

Private Eye and Pericles — both drawn wide — look likely to go forward and take up the ideal stalking spots. It’s almost identical to how Nash rode Private Eye in the PB Lawrence.

Private Eye is a bet.
Pericles is a bet.

And the big lay? Linebacker. Barrier 16. Doesn’t go forward, doesn’t win unless it’s up on speed. It either burns too much petrol trying to cross, or goes back and needs a miracle.

🧮 Why It’s Not Just About Who You Back — It’s About What Price

Inside The King Zone, everything is built around value identification.

That means:

  • Bullet Prices vs Market Prices
  • Class/Speed/Weight (CSW) Ratings
  • CAM + Acceleration patterns
  • And whether the setup actually suits

You don’t win by picking winners.
You win by getting the right price on horses that suit the race shape — and betting them consistently over time.
